TRAINING OF DISASTER RESPONSE
Vilage Barada Nagar & Keoratala,Doctorghari,Dakshin Kankandighi, Nagendrapur under Nagendrapur G.P. and Kankandighi GP exist in the lap of coastal belt and the area is at risk during the disaster and natural calamity. Peoples’ life remain at stake when there appear devastating cyclone, flood. BFCWS realise that So people should be equipped with knowledge and equipment to combat against the adverse situation during flood and calamities.
BFCWS organises training to prepare life jacket for community people in TOT process with the help of BFTW. 12 number of representatives from 9 Peoples’ Organisation participated in the training and they have successfully made 15 number of life jackets. They will step in the community to train up other people for making the life jackets with locally available materials so that people can get belief to save them during the disaster period.
Mock drill session is done to build the skill of local youths so that they can rescue the flood victims during the calamity.33 local youths participate in the TOT training on mock drill and they imparted training to 36 volunteers in the first phase.



HEALTH AND HYGIENE CARE
Menstrual hygiene care & use of re-usable sanitary napkins are the part and parcel of women health and wellbeing. BFCWS organises training cum orientation programme on the remarkable issue because of women awareness building to keep them safe from reproductive health hazards due to improper menstrual care. 143 women from villages Barada Nagar & Keoratala, Doctorghari ,
Dakshin Kankandighi Nagendrapur under Nagendrapur & Kankandighi G.P participates in the said programme.The follow up report says that 80 women out of 143 have changed their habit and attitude after having the training and they lead healthy life being free from menstrual problem. BFCWS takes resolution to reach more women with knowledge and practice of hygiene and health care in near future. The organisation has intension to link with the government health workers like ANM.ASHA,AWW to bring the women under awareness programme.
RELIEF AND SUPPORT
BFTW has given the opportunity to stand by the poor families with livelihood support and training to protect the lives. In Barada Nagar & Keoratala,Doctorghari, Dakshin Kankandighi ,Nagendrapur villages the poor families are given livelihood support like poultry farming, goat farming, mushroom cultivation, duck- farming etc. so that the families become economically self sufficient and engaged in productive work throughout the year. BFCWS plays role to select the families based on some criteria and facilitate the programme in collaboration with BFTW. 10 families are given goats for rearing up and selling the same at matured age for economic benefit. They are imparted veterinary training to protect the goats from ailments.
About 30 households have got poultry chicks. Each family makes the chicks grown, sell the eggs and chicken in the market and earns at least rupees 700/- per month. The eggs also meet the nutritional requirement of the family.Ducklings are distributed among 30 families. Each family earns about rupees 1000/- per month from ducks’ firm. 60 families are encouraged to mushroom cultivation and they are given spawn free of cost to produce mushroom. The follow up report says that 20 families engaged in mushroom cultivation earn around 400/- rupees per month by selling the product in local market.


GENDER SENSITIZATION
Gender discrimination is a curse prevailing in the society especially in rural area. As there remains the discrimination there presents the violence in the residential life. Domestic violence (DV) is a common phenomenon in rural families which are educationally backward. BFCWS organises awareness generation camp on the issue to prevent domestic violence and protect the hazards of family life. The DV cases are dentified 7 in number through focus group discussion (FGD) and 4 cases are solved by negotiation and mutual understanding. In total 109 families come and participate in the gender sensitization programme. Different stakeholders like CBO members, health activist, and panchayat members of the area have participated in promotion of gender equity and stable family life.
If we want to uproot the gender discrimination from the society we have to work more and more in the field of mass awareness. People from all sectors of the society should come forward and be involved in demolition of the curse like domestic violence due to gender issue.
There is also good role of the government departments like women and Child protection committees in GP. Block and District level to combat against the evil of domestic violence.BFCWS will be working on advocacy to activate the committees in rural level and also mass awareness generation programme.
