BASIC HEALTH CARE AND SUPPORT PROGRAMME(BHCSP)

Basic Health Care and Support Programme(BHCSP) is conducted by BFCWS in the villages of 3 Gram Panchayets in Mathurapur Block I.The programme is supported by Memisa Belgium,DGD and facilitated by West Bengal Voluntary Health Association,Kolkata.

The activities include Orientation of PRI, VDC/VHC, VHSNC/ GP/ Block level committee, Capacity building of CBOs  and private health actors, Capacity Building of Community Groups , Training and awareness for Parents, on adolescents’ issue, Identification of problems and prioritization of solution and taking initiative, Promotion of  Community Health Fund  etc.

In GP level named Mathurapur Purba, Mathurapur Paschim, Krishnachandrapur  the activity relates with strengthening Village Health Sanitation and Nutrtion Committee i.e VHSNC.VHSNC is the platform of village people to raise their voice, needs of health, nutrition and sanitation amenities. VHSNC is at the bottom of GP level local self government .It will play the role of facilitating the existing health ,sanitation and nutrition programme by their own initiative. But unfortunately in moast of the places the VHSNC is inactive due to lacke of proper orientation.

BFCWS takes initiative to orient the VHSNC member about their formation, role and responsibilities, planning and implementation of community health, nutrition and sanitation programme. In the said GPs BFCWS organise training of VHSNC’s members in collaboration with District Primary Health Cell(DPHC) and it is a pleasure that the VHSNC members are oriented to play their role and reform the committee as per guide line of the government.

Training to private health actors is imparted by the faculty brought by BFCWS. The Rural medical practitioners (RMP) are the key players in the rural area to provide the rural people with medical treatment and medication. As they are the essential part of recovering life they should be technically and rationally  developed .

With a view to make the RMPs well equipped in providing rational treatment and medication they are imparted training by medical professional from government and private departments. All supports for organising the training are sought from BHCSP. About 45 RMPs are trained and they have changed their attitude and practice in providing medical service to the community.

Community health fund is another initiation of BFCWS through BHCSP. Self Help Groups in its project area are oriented about the saving of fund for their emergency health need beyond its microfinance activity. The women members of the group deposit extra in the Bank and utilise the deposited fund during emergency health need. About 28 groups have created health fund and benefited taking loan from the Bank .

CBOs and CSOs are also come in compass of BFCWS.BFCWS realises that local CBOS,CSOs have good strength to contribute for the society if they come in a light of convergence efforts. BFCWS has tried to bring the CBOs, CSOs together for taking health action in the community. Training and orientation. programme on health involvement and health development by the CBOS,CSOs are done by BFCWS. They are imparted training on identifying the community health problems ,its causes, health planning and linking with health department etc. so that the community based organisation(CBO),Civil Society Organisation (CSO) can make their agenda on health improvement beyond their scheduled activities.

Adolescnets Sexual Reproductive Health is a burning issue at this moment. The parents have a good role to take care of their adolescents ward and most of the parents are not aware of caring their children belonging to adolescence. Therefore the children face a lot of problems in life and they lack definite  direction of enjoying healthy and well to do life .Consequently society lacks good productive and  Contributively citizens day by day.BFCWS extends it work in this sphere of adolescents’ health and involves parents and adolescents to promote sound mental, physical and social health of adolescents. BFCWS has organised a bunch of training program. in its working area for adolescents and their parents. The focus of the training includes knowledge about adolescence, pubertal changes and its care, health and hygiene, values, self confidence ,life skill ,vocational guidance, crosscutting issues like  trafficking, early marriage, domestic violence etc. about 150  adolescents and their parents are given training on the burning topics.Parents are quite impressed to know the life making strategy and problem identification, its solutions etc.

At least the training programme helps the parents to think differently about their wards. The attitudinal change of the parents is marked in the training.
